Plasma error

I have a Plasma error:
Executable: plasmashell PID: 422 Signal: Segmentation fault (11) Time: 9/17/15 11:49:18
I have a png screen shot, but cannot get it to transfer.
Here's the details: We are sorry, Plasma closed unexpectedly.

On opening Muon Package Manager, this message appeared:

You could try renaming your ~/.kde folder and restarting which should reset everything to it's default state. If this stops the error then rebuild your environment piece by piece until you find what is causing it. If that sounds like a pain then another solution to the error seems to be adding the back ports repositories and updating from them. See here for how and risks.

Renaming .kde used to work untill 14.10

With Plasma 5 most configurations are stored in .config and .local
Start with renaming .config and see what happens when you reboot.
If not sufficient also rename .local and try again.

Renaming instead of deleting because in special cases it gives you a chance to recover certain settings from the old one.

Well, if you're going that route then you have nothing to lose by trying the back ports. In a terminal run the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

This will give you much updated versions of plasma among others.

I would just add that if you have just re-installed ,,,,first run the

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

on the new install ,,,,,,,,then add the backports then the

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

once again

I was basing it on my own dithering when making a decision to re-install. It normally takes a few hours

Hi iv just created an account because iv got the same problem (i believe) . I have updated everything and tried removing the ~/.kde/ folder.

new installation of Kubuntu 15.04 crashes plasma 5.2.2 constantly ?

not a clue what im doing wrong or what to do about it.

tried to send a report but it just crashed trying to install backtrack or something.

I was just about to reinstall either this ver or the lts but still would like to double check there is not simple fix first.

p.s. i dont know what a backport is but i shall try you suggestions from previous pages.

if (as I red on your linuxforums.net post) it seems to be the add widget's side bar that keeps crashing it then take the advice in post #7-8

if that dose not work then go back to the LTS(14.04) or up to the 15.10-beta1

yes your CPU is 64bit you can use both the AMD64 or the i386
