Upgrading graphics card from ATI HD 6670 to NVIDIA GTX 970

Im about to purchase a new graphics card. Are there any steps I need to take to prepare? In windows its just plug and play. Do I need to do any uninstalling before I switch cards?

If you use catalyst driver, remove it before booting up system with nvidia.

I have a GTX 750. Mine recognized card and booted OK but Driver Manager told me to upgrade driver and I chose the recommended driver. Works fine, but I'm not a gamer.

I'd purge all the AMD/ATI stuff before installing the nvidia card.
