Network error for new themes & wallpapers

When I try to install new themes or wallpapers all I receive is a network error.

    #2
What version of Kubuntu are you using? Are you actually connected to the Internet with you attempt to install new themes or wallpapers? What is the exact error?
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

You're going to have to provide a little more information! How/where are you when you're trying to install new themes/wallpaper? What "network error" are you receiving? What does it say? Can you grab a screenshot? If so, post it here so we can see it.

Sometimes there is a problem connecting to the kde-look website, which is where the tools to get wallpapers and such get their stuff from.
While it can be a problem on the external website, it likely is a bug in the tool, so getting us which version of things you have can helps us find out what to do.

I am going to guess that you are running a base 15.04 (where I last saw this problem), which makes me think that the first step is to make sure that you are fully up to date via
sudo apt full-upgrade or sudo apt-get dist-upgrade (both commands are identical)
Which you probably already have done either in a terminal or using the update manager.

Once fully updated, if this is still happening, you may want to consider upgrading your Plasma/Frameworks/Application via the kubuntu-backports ppa

I'm using Kubuntu 15.04. Of course I'm connected to the internet. How do you think that I posted this?

              Well, from another computer/device perhaps?

But really, what I meant was that the applet that is used for viewing and downloading the wallpapers and other things sometimes can't connect to the kde-look website. Sometimes (rarely) it is because of the website, in this case it is likely a bug in the applet. On my bone stock 15.04 virtual machine, I do get the same error, but it is inconsistent. Sometimes it works.sometimes not. I was hoping that a regular update might pull in a fix, but it looks like it will be found by using the kubuntu-backports ppa, which will upgrade Pasma, Frameworks and Applications, which will provide improvements and fixes.

huh? My computer is a Dell Latitude d510 with 2 GB RAM, a 60 GB HD and Kubuntu 15.04.

Have you read my last post?

There is a bug in the tool that browses for and installs wallpapers (as well as other items)
Upgrading your version of Plasma to a newer one will fix this (actually, to be more accurate, upgrading KDEs Frameworks from 5.9.0 to 5.12.0).
You add the kubuntu-backports ppa in order to get these updates.

I added "ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports" as the URI in add to repository and updated. Now what?

The repository "deb ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports" shows checked in the list of repositories in Synaptic Package Manager but a search for 5.12.0 returns nothing...

You won't find '5.12" by searching, that will only show package names, not the versions, unfortunately.

                      Code:
arnett@arnett-Latitude-D510:~$ sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
                      [sudo] password for arnett:
E: The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/ppa could not be found.

E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process usin

It looks like synaptic needs you to specify both the distribution and component as well as the url when adding a new repository. Edit the info to add Distribution as 'vivid', and component as 'main'.

the software sources config in Muon just needs the url line, and adds the extra parts automatically, and the command line to do this is :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports, but as you already have the line added, it is probably easier to just edit that. If you want to try the differetn methods, be sure to remove what you added first, so you don't end up with extra, duplicate lines.

                      Code:
                      arnett@arnett-Latitude-D510:~$ sudo do-release-upgrade
Checking for a new Ubuntu release
                      No new release found
                      arnett@arnett-Latitude-D510:~$
This is the command line way to upgrade from Vivid 15.04 to Wily 15.10, which is not yet released.
