Gonna try boot again. Scroll is gone but now the boot screen is for ubuntu, other stuff, it brings up a black screen with kubuntu in the middle then goes to kubuntu. The boot screen is no longer blue. It's black and within the black is a window with the listed boot options. Sucks and slow. gonna boot again.

          Code:
          0
          # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
          # /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
          # For full documentation of the options in this file, see:
          # info -f grub -n 'Simple configuration'
Just delete that topmost 0; do not leave a blank line at the top -- delete the topmost blank line if there is one, so the first line is:
          Code:
          # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
(It shouldn't matter about the blank line, but update-grub seems kind of fussy at times.)

You should get a simple, normal boot-up now => this is the standard 14.04 default /etc/default/grub file now ... unless ... you've changed some other exotic setting ... ?

EDIT: Go back and compare to my original posted grub file.

Booted 3 times total. The boot screen is as I described and Ubuntu and Ubuntu Advanced Options along w/ Windows. Maybe it always said ubuntu and not kubuntu. It then shows Kubuntu on a dark screen and then launches desktop. The time lapse might be equal to the time it took to scroll and the scrolling window is masked, so to speak, with the change. Once desktop comes up, it's very slow loading the launcher, wifi, etc. Wonder what the change in resolution had to with it, if anything?

we're out of sync on comms. Let me check your codes with the grub file. but you know I changed / added the resolution in grub to match my monitor.

That's correct. It is not right, but it is correct. We don't like it. We'd prefer it say "Kubuntu," but that's the way of th world (unless you are a programmer and can change it on your own installation ... )

It MAY take awhile to fully get booted up and showing you a Desktop, but not too terribly long, I never times it, but I might do that.

#1 So, the DOS-like scrolling did stop, right?

#2 And you have 10 seconds to see that GRUB menu showing Ubuntu, Advanced, Windows, etc., right? You have 10 seconds unless you touch any key -- then you have forever as it stops at the menu until you make a selection and press Enter.

Hang on. You're getting ahead of me and I get lost. Haven't compared yet but check this out. I saved your original code as a file in Document. Named it grub. Opened it to compare to the grub file in /default. When I open the default file, it becomes grub (2) and something about kate is there too. I guess the same file names didn't jive. I dleted the one in Documents. Now let me compare yours in this thread to the one in default.

Boot times: I see the GRUB boot menu and I select Kubuntu (Ubuntu). The word "Kubuntu" appears in the center of a black screen After 28 seconds since selecting Kubuntu (Ubuntu), the password dialog appears. I enter my PW. After another 18 seconds, the Desktop appear -- Note: sometimes I notice that it takes a bit longer than that, but this time seemed faster. So, I see the GRUB menu and I select Kubuntu (Ubuntu). After 46 seconds I get the Desktop screen. But, sometimes, although the Desktop screen appears, it is not yet ready to receive mouse clicks and it may take some more seconds to be fully alive and ready. => Less than 1 minute to have a functioning Desktop after I select Kubuntu (Ubuntu) from the GRUB menu.

Same except for: where I add the resolution line (red), yours is blank (a space) there.
