VLC: allow fetching media information from Internet

Just after opening VLC for the first time (in this install), it gives me the prompt with the checkbox for "allow fetching media information from Internet." I accidentally clicked away that window while that checkbox was still checked. But I want that setting disabled. I can't seem to find it in the VLC preferences--how can I change it?
