Reinstall 14.04
Had to reinstall Win7 on my Toshiba L655 (about 4 yrs old ). Now I'm getting ready to reinstall Kubuntu 14.04 but before starting I would like to know if I can install a boot loader besides Grrrrub. I never liked Grub and find it too difficult to configure and maintain. Also, should I use my old install DVD (maybe 2 yrs old or more) or download the latest?

Download 14.04.2. Use the diskcreator to burn it to a USB stick. Check the option to install proprietary extras but do not check the option to install updates during the install. After the install and BEFORE you allow updates use "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get install muon" to install the muon package manager. The Munon Discovery Center has too much lipstick. Use Muon to install your apps. IF you have an HP laser be sure to install HPLIP before you let the system do the other updates which will be waving at you from the system tray.

I believe Windows 7 will boot Kubuntu. No GRUB necessary. Just install Kubuntu to a partition and use the --no-bootloader switch when you launch Ubiquity (the installer) or install GRUB to the Kubuntu partition instead of the MBR.
