After recent update/upgrade, Kubuntu 15.04 freezes in the last step of starting.

Using the repair feature of Kubuntu 15.04, there is a point where "Kubuntu Desktop" fails to install. After requesting the installation, it fails, even in the Repair Mode of operation. Is this where forcing the installation is appropriate? If so, what is the command instruction to force the installation, please?

I just had a memory about renaming kde to kdeold to have kde re-installed fresh. Is that the thing I should do? I attempt to open in the "failsafe" desktop, which also does not work, so if this is the appropriate solution, how do I get a konsole in Kubuntu 15.04 to make the change? Thanks!
