My drives are screwed and I want to fix them. I need to know if certain things can safely happen and not lose the data I have in the process. To accomplish the task, I will have to mess with drives that are currently used for backup. Some risk - that I am willing to take if it can be done.

Is a 128GB SSD large enough to run Kubuntu 15.04 until it is stable?

128Gb is certainly large enough...
BUT...
15.04 means 2015 April. It will not reach Final Release until 23rd April...
AND...
There is often a risk being an Early Adopter i.e. for the first several weeks after Final Release.
PLUS...
15.04 is an ordinary issue which will have a relatively shorter life. If it is long term stability you are looking for you would be better to use an LTS (Long Term Support) issue which will have a longer life. The last LTS was 14.04. OK, it might not have the bang up-up-to-date whistles and bells, but it will have S-t-a-b-i-l-i-t-y!"A problem well stated is a problem half solved." --Charles F. Kettering

I am getting rather old and nearing my end. Computing has been something I have loved, even though I am not very well suited for the task. Nevertheless, since my time is getting near, I really want to see the bells and whistles.
Some of the things we do that are useful now, were bells and whistles a short time ago. Most of us use them and wouldn't want to be without. That is my real reason for wanting Kubuntu 15.04. It will be as fast as I can make it with whistles too. I will use it just for pleasure and not worry so much about stability. I appreciate your wisdom in the matter.
