I've been giving the OS space rather than let it take things on its own hand. I also prefer to it that way. The free space has been prepared and is now sitting idly on the hd.

I've at last installed Ubuntu on my machine. Yes, I wanted to try that out first. The alternate installer worked like a charm, although it took an hour or more to install. Got some tweaking around to.
