How do you install KDE ?

@sithlord48, I thought software also would be available 5 years ago and up to this day.

Thing is, this htpc unlike other htpc`s has a module called a ` netceiver` ,which basically takes charge of the dvd sat cards.

BM2LTS works with both internal ( Reelbox ) and external netceivers ( ordinary pc`s ) .

Being a satellite enthusiast whilst searching 5 years ago for a decent system , stumbled upon Reelbox. I hadn`t used any pc ( apart from the one local library ) .

This machine had it all . Many have tried using a normal pc to integrate the netceiver but it has that `specialized` software that sets it apart.

Anybody can download and install the iso - try it out . I do like it , just prefer kde desktop.

As BM2LTS is not a proper Ubuntu system, can you please register here -> http://www.vdr-portal.de/index.php?p...postID=1232734 and seek help and support from them in to how you get KDE on this system. If it can be installed they are the best people to ask.

Hi NickStone, already a member of Reelbox4you and cinfo is the main developer for bm2lts . He was the one who suggested i download v2.48n rc5 ( which is in alpha phase ).

However, i will also register on his site. Only problem is that google translate doesn`t really perform a decent job there.

Try installing software-properties-kde

Also: you might just want to add these to or change your sources.list and see if that cures the missing dependencies.

I kinda skipped several posts in this thread (hey, it's pretty big, after all ;-) - But have you evaluated Plasma Media Center running on a stock Kubuntu installation? It may meet your needs and of course you could continue to get awesome support here.

@oshunluvr, a near miss , didn`t have software-properties-kde , went to install and same dependency errors. However, when i went to unmark the package , was left with 2 - which were installed. I thought if i remark the original package , this might install but no.

Just for the record , attempted a reinstall of kubuntu-desktop and failed.

What if Gnome was reinstalled , could this may be a step in the right direction.

Copied and pasted your sources file and that went through fine - i guess.

gnome has nothing to do with kde at all.

E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

look in synaptic for any held packages. if you find any unhold them

@sithlord48, on trying to install software-properties-kde through the terminal, it did tell me that one package was `not going to be installed` :

python3-pykde4 , went to synaptic and install but again synaptic is saying broken.

If you go back to post #51 , that is the method used to locate broken packages but on pressing ok on completion - nothing happened. I assume no broken packages , when obviously they exist.

@kdeuser ,,,,,,,,,you never did find out if you had any "pined(dpkg),held(synaptic),locked(muon)" packages if your OS has a lot or a few important packages "pined/held/locked" and KDE needs to have different ver.of those packages it will not install ,,,,,,,,,, + if you un-pin/hold/lock those packages and install KDE it may brake something in your custom OS (if their is "pined/held/locked packages it is for a reason)

that may be why the mantaner of the OS has told you to try the beta release ,,,,,,,, newer packages.

held dose not always = broken @sithlord48 is telling you to look for "held/pined/locked" packages.

Synaptic to identify any 'pinned' packages.

Settings > Filters and click the New button, click the Deselect All button and check the Pinned box. Change the name of the filter from New Filter 1 to Pinned. Click the OK button.

You now have a filter that will show all Pinned packages, if there are any.

Now, i have a filter in place , how do i use that - just confused here....

A note that i tried the beta release which gave me exactly the same errors as the stable bm2lts release.

that is unnecessary and complicated ,,,,,,,,,give me 10-20 min Ill boot to Ubuntu and screenshot you a tut to show "pined" packages in synaptic ,,,,,

1-this is to detect "pined packages NOT broken . 2-I have egg on my face ,,,,,,,,it IS necessary to make the custom filter (I was sure it used to be their by default)

anyway ,,,,,,,,,,, if you made the filter , as described,,,,,,, open synaptic and on the left side click "custom filters"



select the "pined" filter ,,,,,,if you have any pined packages they will show (I pined one so their would be something to see in the screenshot) if you have any post a screenshot or a list of them ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Started a thread at vdr-portal.de , which is the birthplace of bm2lts and in symbiosis with Kubuntu Forums , hope to install kde on Ubuntu :

Last night cinfo the main developer of bm2lts wrote some command lines down and i quickly got typing. My thanks go to cinfo here on a good whack at the problem which unfortunately still remains without solution.

Commands below :

Inshort , upto the last black line of text - perfect, but it`s the beginning of the first red text line which produces those errors.

These 2 packages are undetected/failed to locate :

[B]kubuntu-plasma5-desktop plasma-workspace-wallpapers[/B]

I then remembered that the neon/kf5 ppa draws many packages - including the 2 mentioned .

It turns out that the neon/kf5 ppa is not maintained any more - hence no plasma5 .

Out of curiosity ( dangerous ) i opened up synaptic thinking this would be futile ,see if kubuntu-desktop installed . Would you believe synaptic didn`t complain , marked the package and started installing.

It was a long 10 minutes i can tell you. It wasn`t till towards the end that errors such as fatal and aborted were screaming at me, but the install carried on.

I thought this would be some how repaired on reloading synaptic, but please read on.

Restarted and booted up fine up to the splash login screen where i selected `kde plasma desktop`, waited expecting kde and got this instead :

[B]Call to lnusertemp failed (temporary directories full?). Check your installation[/B]

Basically, a blank screen in blue with the error showing at the top left of the screen.

It seems i have been locked out of /home.

Googled a bit and came up with the following post :

I don`t understand it though and this is where i need some help because the main problem here is how i can print out what i am seeing on the konsole to then show Kubuntu Forums ?
