    Kdesudo not working anymore ?

    Hi,

Kdesudo command that enables you to run as root , all of a sudden doesn`t work.

I need to be root in order to copy files from Desktop to one of the drives.

    Thanks for your help.

you may have a stale .Xauthority file try removing it
    Code:
    sudo rm ~/.Xauthority
for that first error about your host name you may also want to check that your host name is set correctly .. check /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts files and be sure they have matching names.

edit: you might also have to remove /root/.Xauthority . this file might not exist it don't on my computer

Have you changed your hostname recently?
Does your hostname match in files /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts?

      EDIT: redundant post

Don`t know too much here but Reelbox looks like is in hosts and hostnames , plus made a print of /home . Seems there`s no .XAuthority.

Reelbox is in /etc/hosts, but that line does not have correct syntax (IP_address canonical_hostname [aliases...]):

so "localhost 127.0.1.1 ReelBox" should be "127.0.1.1 ReelBox" (remove localhost from the beginning of the line)

Since you do not have sudo functionality to edit, you'll need to boot into recovery mode to edit the file. In the recovery console, you can use nano to edit "nano /etc/hosts" (Ctrl+o to save).

Booted into recovery mode , however, , unable to save as on (ctrl+o) system prints readonly .

              Unable to save .

Leaves me nowhere really. I do not know what`s happening here.

does your system have any issues mounting / ? if so it will mount in read only mode (as per your fstab) . dmesg is a good place to look for them

The recovery mode (root shell option) mounts the root filesystem as readonly. Sorry for the omission.
You can remount it readwrite with:
                  mount -o remount,rw /

Just made a fresh install and unable to write to hosts but can run sudo. Must be something innate to this particular os - note , i am running a modified kubuntu.

Ran dmesg and below is the readout :

I should mention that my mother board has 4 sata inputs , all of which have a drive attached.

The first is a 500 gb os drive, second and third are 2 tb drives , ending with a 3 tb one. The last drive strangely, refuses to mount and is not in fstab.
