    find in dolphin does not work as expected

    I have a folder named "C531_C331_C321_Linux_110".

    When using the search string:
    • c531 => folder is found
    • c331 or c321 => folder is not found.

    c331 and c321 I tested also with wildcards (*) enclosed, still folder was not found.

    According to the the manual search "...does not require surrounding wildcards (*foo* and foo are equivalent),..."

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks for hints!

    Baloo

    Edited to point that the Baloo has replaced the Nepomuk and it is not an option with the current KDE desktop

    The Baloo is - https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showth...71-Baloo-links -> https://community.kde.org/Baloo

    Baloo is the file indexing and file search framework for KDE....

    The Nepomuk project in KDE aimed at implementing the vision of "The Semantic Desktop" using RDF. After years of trying the developers felt that while many of the ideas behind "The Semantic Desktop" were great. Implementing them using RDF and classical semantics was not the way to go...
    Searching with: "baloo partial string".

    There is a bug report: Bug 333037 - Search for filenames requires first characters, cannot start in the middle : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333037

    Few quotes:

    I believe that this functionality was working previously, before Baloo was used (so, Nepomunk?).

    I'm sorry, but this just cannot be fixed. Searching for words from the middle would require massive changes in Baloo. It would also result in us having to to do double the amount of work - so double the cpu + io usage, double the disk space used. And the complexity of the code would also increase. I'm not inclined on fixing this.

    Hmm, for filenames this can be possibly done. I'll see. But don't hold your breath.

    ...With Plasma 5.1, just searching for "w2014" will work. Before 5.1, we did not take _ into consideration. Wilcard searching has also been implemented for filenames from 5.1, it just is not yet exposed in KRunner. It will definitely be there in 5.2.

    Testing
    - with the older Kubuntu 12.04 LTS, KDE SC 4.8.5 - plasma 4, which is using the Nepomuk
    - with the current Kubuntu 14.04 LTS, KDE SC 4.13.3 - plasma 4, which is using the Baloo
    - with the current Kubuntu 14.10, KDE SC 4.14.2 - plasma 4, which is using the Baloo
    - with the development Kubuntu 15.04, with KDE 14.12 - plasma 5, which is using the Baloo

    The (middle) search is working with the Nepomuk / Plasma 4 - Kubuntu 12.04 (Precise).

    The (middle) search is not working with the Baloo / Plasma 4 - Kubuntu 14.04 (Trusty) or Kubuntu 14.10 (Utopic).

    The (middle) search is working with the Baloo / Plasma 5- Kubuntu 15.04 (Vivid).

      HI,

      Thanks a lot for the bug and workaround information.

      I searched for the Neopmuk Sematic Desktop using the Muon Discover and fund only the Nepomuk Cleaner which was already installed.

      From your explanation I understand that the Nepomuk Semantik Desktop is a separate application like the Dolphin, How can I install it?

      Thanks already for further help.
