    You're using the Root Actions Service Menu, according to your screenshot. So that means you'll be able to change details in the files in /usr/share/applications/*. Without using Root Actions, normal users can't change the details.

        Also, if you're changing the desktop files in /usr/share/applications/ (through the Desktop links), your changes will be overwritten with package upgrades.

        You can, however, copy the .desktop file to ~/.local/share/applications/ (if you modify a desktop file with kmenueditor, it will do this automatically) in which case you can link to them and edit the files as the user (and not have your changes overwritten).

        Copying to Desktop instead of linking will of course work fine as is using normal desktop instead of folder view (as already explained in the thread).
