Played with using gdm instead of lightdm. Error went away, returned when I went back to lightdm, so I think it is lightdm problem, or something gone wrong during upgrade from 14.04 Installing 14.10 fresh using netboot cd. Takes a little longer to download all the packages, but should be ok
