    Enter Dragon Amarok Clementine

    Short
    Simple
AMAROK provides "value added"..... that Clementine does not..."now"......(it will probably later)

For those who want to "enjoy music".................NO TWEAKING NO HASSEL OUT OF THE BOX....

Yes............if "you" want to bend your arm around your back to reach your elbow.............yes............"Linux" will let you do that.

I..........since I am an old doof........prefer........just being able to listen to music and SOMEtimes.......get some "extra" information.

    To........wit..........and woodsmoke has no wit.....

The old doof was listening to "Soma FM" ..........."Secret Agent"...............using.........."another distro".

That had COMPLETELY ENABLED.............that is AS MUCH AS IT CAN BE RIGHT NOW IN

as Sheldon Cooper would say..............right now in our space time continumum...............

But for the REST OF US...............

Clementine..........will probably be able to eject the cd tray and make coffee but now............

I was listening to "Enter the Dragon - Jeff Parnell and His Orchestra............."

    THE SOUND WAS MARVELOUS......................I mean........OGG...........DUUUUUHHHH.....

    But...........no ..............."context"...........

I...........>PERSONALLY >>> am NOT into "context" ..........BUT

    There is ALWAYS ..............a BUT.........lol

BUT...........there REALLY ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO WANT TO READ ABOUT "stuff" ..........that is context................

    OR...............THINK ABOUT THIS..............

If "people" did not want "context" then..............ahem..........Amarok would not have UMMMMMM

    PROVIDED IT!!!!

    So.............

On "another distro"..........Clementine.........."just works"..........but...............not all of the context from wikepedia or whoever........

Kubuntu........ummm provides the wonderful music and also context in...........Amarok(tweaked)...

    nuff said...........woodsmoke

NOTE: umm yess.........the AGINNERS.........will post that "Kubuntu is "just" Ubuntu with KDE".........

    Ummmmmm I think not.

Actually as an audio player I think Clementine is better than Amarok for the simple reason that I always have issues in playing my CD collection with Amarok, I mean first it is first installed it will play from a CD but then all of a sudden it won't even recognise the CD. With Clementine I have never had that problem, it recognises the CD every time and plays it.

NOTE: umm yess.........the AGINNERS.........will post that "Kubuntu is "just" Ubuntu with KDE".........

    Ummmmmm I think not.
So what is the difference? And don't say KDE.

you listen to cds? with all that spinning thingo spinning? I just rip to Flac/alac
i actually removed the dvd drive from my computer and just use an external usb one - mainly gets used to burn/install linux distros lol. not much else.

+1 for Amarok here. i wish it was skinable. but anyway. it handles internet radio stations nicely and iTunes library without a hiccup.
oh. and +1 for context :")

Rog, that is some pretty amazing stuff!

Nick............I really can't put my finger on "it", but I've installed KDE over a lot of distros just to fiddle with things, and it almost always comes down to a) There will be somehing that just does not "work out of the box", Kubuntu always just works out of the box. ib)There a a certain "ambience" to the look and feel of Kubu that I have never experienced when I installed KDE over a distro. Now yes that is all about opinion and personal taste and I'm sure that there are things about themes etc, but I always just use the stock theme, don't tweak it at all. So...again, yeah I've been told over and over that Kubu is just Ubu with KDE on top but....don't know.

Millusions I wish that Amarok was skinable also. lol I actually made a custom Amarok image to put into the "stock platter" when there is no data available with a pic, but... that is all I've done on it to change it.

Wellll............. I was intrigued by all that snazzy stuff about QmPlay2 so...........thought I'd download.

It is not in the repos.

However, the deb can be obtained here

However, the important commands for terminal are:

            sudo add-apt-repository ppa:samrog131/ppa
            sudo apt-get update
            sudo apt-get install qmplay2

Using the "other distro", it would not play a cd.

However, using Kubu it does, indeed play a cd as in play the physical diskette.

The "labeling" of the various functions is not completly intuitive to the old woodsmoker.

But, the tab labled "video" will, indeed provide album art for a cd.

The reason for the label "video" is that when one goes to the YouTube tab and types in say....Quantum of Solace....... one is blown away by how QUICK.......pun..........it is to provide a full listing of videos on You Tube and ........click one of them and the "video" tab pops and it PLAYS the video.......

            And I mean.........jiffy quick...........

There is an "interesting" mix of internet radio stations, most of them....seemingly......."polish".......not a slur, just what is there....

I was able to add the url for SOMA FM secret agent easily........

It is not very "aesthetic" in terms of the skin but........hey..........for what it does.....Ill pass on the rather plain interface.........

            ... It is rather amazing.

This could actually replace Amarok for me.......and never thought I'd say THAT!! lol

              The developer is Polish:

                Rog....
                That is just SCAREY good!
I just run stock stuff, don't change themes etc. or if I do it is very seldome. Don't change "colours" much.

Again, some of the terminology is ot immediately obvious to me.

I chose that and put a really beautiful diving picture on like you indicated and it is just SCAREY good looking.........

I've now converted to QmPlay2 rather like I converted to Amarok from a very short stint with xmms2 and a previous several years with xmms.

                Thanks muchly!

I personally, think that mebbe you might start a dedicated thread to the player, with emphasis on "tweaking the appearance" maybe have a "show me yours and I'll show you mine!".........ooops...........wrong concept! how about..........."Show us your QmPlay2 pics!! lol

                thanks again,

                    Well Rog132........

                    You truely DID inspire me!.

One caveat on the pic, one needs to choose a format such as .png which can be autoresized by the app. A .jpg which is too small will be "tiled", and ............with a HUGE pic the app will opt for the top left corner.

So a reasonably sized .png is the way to go at least for the old woodsmoker.

That is me in the right panel, in Nassau Bahamas at about thirty feet waving to a friend of mine who grabbed my GoPro Black to get some images of me......since I was spending all my energy taking images of other folks! lol

Back behind the fellow is "the wall" .......down there be sharks! lol

thanks again for the tips, they were WELL TAKEN!!

I like Amarok because it's the only player that can display Music folder and subfolder in an easy way, which can be made default. My music collection is sorted by Music/Artist/Album/Music file. For some reason, metadata isn't correct in most files and I can't choose artist whithout seeing only a real mess and get very frustrated...

So, is Amarok a dead project? Last version, 2.8, was released in August 16, 2013.

I am assuming yarock ppa is samrog123 also?
                              {Edit} Yes, yes it is.
In relation to yarock it won't play CD's or at least I've not found that function easily.
                              So I will give qmplay2 a go.
