Unable to record audio from my pc ? help please....

    Hello,

I am using a mediacenter with kubuntu lucid 10.04 installed.

I can not update as mediacenter would stop working.

There`s an issue with audio .I can play video and sound is great but recently i needed to record my desktop session and audio was not recorded.

My sound card is a Realtek alc888 , it`s fairly old.

Went to youtube for some information and downloaded pulseaudio which formed part of nearly every tutorial .

However, still unable to record any sound .

Having played around with pulseaudio and alsamixer, no recorded sound yet but added the line below to the end of alsa-base.conf in etc/modprobe.d :

    options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1

Restarted the pc went to kmix and found this :

It seems as though the headphones don`t have a slider option. Could this be the problem as all i can do is check and uncheck .

I`d like some help on this please and thanks.

I have had screencast software not get my audio input before as well ,, with no fix in site ,,,, what I did was save/make the screencast as .avi then make/record my dialog with some other recording software (audacity) wile watching the screencast to keep it some what in sink, saving as .mp3 and then use "avimerge" (part of the transcode package) to put them together.

sence you already installed pulseaudio install pavucontrol (pulse audio volume control) and use it instead of Kmix to try to find the right setup to get your audio to record ,,,,,, I have found it to be better at it myself .

Actually , it`s the audio that fails to record on any app.

Installed both . I can hear sound but the microphone seems muted. Thing is when i lower or raise it`s volume ( mic ) , the hiss can be heard through the headphones .

It is the ( why the headphones icon in alsamix does n`t have a slider ? ) .

Possibly the headphones are involved with the problem. Try playing with your mic in pavucontrol, and recording with the headphones disconnected from the computer. If your mic works with no headphones, then you will have narrowed the problem down.

Did n`t work , thanks for that though. I am stumped on this.

I thought it a good idea to record a portion of audio and print the results here.

Copy text from audio status in audacity :

Having installed an additional graphics card ( geforce nvidia 210 ) along side my AMD one , it seems that the os has disabled the audio/video outputs from the motherboard.

This is another way of attempting to get the nvidia card to record audio from the pc.
