2nd HDD with Red Hat Guiness

I have two hard drives in my Linux box, which is a converted Windows XP machine. My primary HDD is an 80 Gig Western Digital that appears to be working fine. The system boots from it O.K.

The second drive is a 4 Gig Fujitsu that has an old copy of Red Hat 7.0 (Guiness) installed on it that I accessed by booting from a floppy. It's been on the drive for several years, and I haven't used it in that amount of time.

My problem is that GRUB sees my Kubunto server, but it also sees four partitions with Red Hat Guiness on them. I have tried to use gparted to delete and reestablish the partitions on this HDB drive, and to reformat it as ext3, but I can't mount it, and the Red Hat partitions still show up at boot time.

I would like to make this drive usable to kubunti, and to get rid of the Red Hat entries on the GRUB Boot Menu. So far, I have been able to find no documentation to tell me how to do that safely without affecting the HDA drive that contains my Kubuntu installation. Any thoughts?

      Hi,
your old 4gig HD may very well be faulty as it must be very old only being 4gig but if we assume that it is not, I would remove your main HD and attempt to format it from a CD if this fails down load Darik's Boot and Nuke run this WITH ONLY YOUR OLD HD ATTACHED if you cannot format it after this you have a failed HD on your hands.
You can find full instructions for GRUB here.

Hope this is slightly more help than your first responce regards John.

Thanks, John. I'm having so many problems with my Kubuntu Server installation that I think I'll start over, and manually partition my drives. This will be my third attempt to get a "clean" Ubuntu unstallation.

I normally take that option myself, just for my own peace of mind.

Nice...and you waited a whopping 14 hours before deciding that no one was going to help you...ever.

There is paid support available for (k)ubuntu, too, if you don't appreciate the community effort.
