    Start by doing the update from the command line, this might fix a one-off problem.
    Oor if you like me like a nice graphical user interface, ditch this updater and use the Muon Package Manager, a much more complete tool.

      I have seen this recently but only in a secondary session.
      I use x2go and do not try to take control of an existing session, so in the secondary session I get this if I try to apply updates with the Muon Updater.
      The main session does not have any issue.

        Tried Muon Package Manager too - does the same thing! Apparently there is a long list of recent bugs.
        I used Synaptic to get the updates.
        Thanks

          glad you got your updates ............

          and how you get them is of course your decision , but if you use the comand line you will get (usually) better info on what is not working if something go's south .

          I do this
          Code:
          sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
          to do my updates whenever I feal like or if I see a notifacation of some .

          your original problem looks (maby) like a policy kit problem .
