    What is the 14.10 upgrade?

New to Kubuntu cycle releases so I need some help.
I am currently running updated 14.04 which in Kinfocenter KDE SC version is listed as 4.13.3 and KDELibs 4.14.2.

What exactly am I getting into if I decide to upgrade to 14.10? Do I get more updated KDE, updated kernels, what is it exactly? Do I get less stable platform? Are future updates more likely to cause problems if I switch to 14.10? Is it considered a development release or the next release everyone should move too?
If I do not switch will I ever be able to get plasma5?

    If then else

    Code:
    if [ happy with 14.04 ]; then
       keep the 14.04
    else
       upgrade to 14.10
    fi
The 14.10 could be better or worse than the 14.04 with your system...

I am currently running updated 14.04 which in Kinfocenter KDE SC version is listed as 4.13.3 and KDELibs 4.14.2...
    For the Kubuntu 14.04: http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-appl...-platform-4142
Packages for the release of KDE SC 4.14.2 are available for Kubuntu 14.04LTS and our development release. You can get them from the Kubuntu Backports PPA, and the Kubuntu Utopic Updates PPA...

The 14.04 will get upgrades - with the 14.04.1: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/R...ummary/14.04.1

    The 14.04 is LTS:

    Long Term Support (LTS)

This policy outlines special long term stable support for Kubuntu releases.

Long term support releases are created every 2 years. They offer substantially longer support than regular releases.

In particular long term support releases have the following boons:

During the first 6 months after release, developers put additional emphasis on delivering stable updates.

Monthly KDE software release backports are made available through the Kubuntu PPA for as long as supported by the native LTS software stack but no longer than 2 years.

KDE security updates are offered to LTS releases through their respective security repository throughout the entire long term support duration.

Developers can deliver stable release updates throughout the entire long term support duration, in accordance with our Stable Updates policy. Users may request an update once an upstream fix has become available.

Upgrading from one LTS to the following LTS is supported, effectively reducing the amount of upgrades a user will have to conduct to one every 2 years or 2 every 4 years.

Long term support releases are not excepted from any other standing policy.

If I do not switch will I ever be able to get plasma5?
The upgrade from the lts to the lts is (has been) supported (14.04 -> 16.04).

Plasma 5 & KDE Frameworks 5 is a now under heavy develpment - Kubuntu plans:

    https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ku...ne/008527.html
...Once the software matures upstream, we plan to push the packages into
Ubuntu 15.04 once the archive opens, and then eventually switch to
Plasma 5 as the default desktop environment at some point in the future.

Until such a change happens, we would still like users to try out
    Plasma 5 and provide feedback...

Do you want to test ?:
...Kubuntu Plasma5 is in tech preview, thanks for testing, if you find a bug you can also check it with kubuntu-ci images for latest builds http://files.kde.org/snapshots/ and report to bugs.kde.org..
