After reading through the forum searches the last couple days I'm just not getting something. Dummy Alert - I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I am now getting some update errors I simply don't understand. I'm getting a BUNCH of 404 not found errors after months with no hiccups at all. This happens in BOTH Muon as well as Synaptic package handlers. (I use synaptic mostly)
Following are results after switching the source to the “MAIN server” but I get similar errors when I have the source set to “Server for United States” as well as choosing any other server in the list (after reading that advice in the forums here).
When I choose “Select Best Server” under “Other” it goes through reading all the possible servers yet returns no recommended servers. Again this happens in both Synaptic as well as Muon. I do have internet connectivity as I'm sitting here on the forum with you guys.
I went to the Ubuntu Sources List Generator http://repogen.simplylinux.ch/ to maybe rebuild a “sources.list” but my 12.10 is not in the list. Only 12.04 and 14.04. So I did NOT rebuild that sources.list. It just smells like something else went clunk.

Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Okay so something went clunk as far as how the repositories are updated.
The CLI "sudo apt-get update" returns much the same error list with not many “HIT” and a lot of “IGNORE” and a whole herd of the 404 not found errors. This all started when I tried to update Chrome about a week ago.
