My clam is in a jam.

    Need help !

My clam GUI is not updating, i can't get it past 4.45 and the antivirus engine 0.98.1..
That's the first problem. also i tried to update via it's homepage, packaged version on kubuntu store , also console.. None of them updated to the current.

Scanning regardless though, i did find that console only returned 4 threats, all (PUA's) whilst the front end version found 14. That's a big difference. I believe they were all successfully updated to the same 4.45 version.

Should i be looking at alternatives to clam?

    Thanks everybody for looking.

The GUI of clam does that for everyone, simply go into the preferences and turn off the check for the update of the GUI.

For the difference you may have seen, was one scan recursive and the other was not? Or did one scan only do the home directory vs the root directory?

Should you look for an alternative? That is all about your comfort level. Linux is not bulletproof but pretty damn well off in this front.

Hi Otiskit Thank you for replying! I am relieved to see it's for everyone, and i was just fishing kinda for other versions.. I'm pretty much secure in my browsing so not much going on i have to worry about, no dodgy website if you know what i mean..

Both scans were recursive as i recollect, But like looking back, they were all found on Chromium, so i'm not rally worried and my links there only go to work related items..

It's just.. I'm a newbie you see! Scared, wanting.. Trying. All about learning i guess.

Thanks again for replying so prompt.

Teunis is correct. There is no requirement for an anti-malware scanner on a Linux desktop or laptop. You might as well purge all ClamAV-related packages, because they aren't actually providing you with any protection against threats one encounters in the Linux world.
