    Configuring Samba + general guides

I'm not so nooby with Linux, but very much so with Kubuntu.
(Used Debian, Mint and Ubuntu quite long, but encountered HW support problems with
Debian and Mint, and hate Unity.)

My main problem is getting samba to work.

I understand there is supposed to be a graphical configuration tool for KDE?
I installed Samba with Muon, but I don't really know what I installed.
Clicking the icon 'Samba' in 'Settings'-menu didn't seem to do anything.
Is it smbd/nmbd (re)starter or what?

Also, is there some very commonly used alternate package manager?
I'm somewhat more accustomed to synaptic, but is it considered obsolete in Kubuntu now?
Is there a Muon user guide somewhere?
    Any other Kubuntu-specific guides around?
(That is: I know something about Ubuntu and something about KDE, but not much about KDE+*buntu combination.)

Muon Package Manager (not the Software Center thingy that is the default in Kubuntu) works like synaptic, and there is still synaptic as well. You can install either or both as you need.

There is a samba sharing utility for KDE. Actually, if you right click on a folder in Dolphin, select Properties, and go to the Sharing tab, it will show you the option to install samba and the kde bits that there are.

Setting up samba is usually a butt pain for me, for some reason, but any recent guide for Ubuntu will work the same for Kubuntu. There are a few people in here that have good knowledge on setting it up.

When I start software center, it says 'Muon Discover'.
If I want the disk shares to be available from the boot, I probably have to mount the shares via fstab?
I wonder if the Dolphin-made shares are temporary? And I should edit the smb.conf for 'permanent' shares?

A-ha, muon package manager is different thing. Just installed it.
      Looks familiar. :-)

What's the recommended way in 'Kubuntu-world' to configure Samba?
Hand-editing or system-config-samba (or something else)?

        Did it by hand-editing.
