    Limewire

I am trying to get Limewire going and have followed the instructions in -
    http://easylinux.info/wiki/Ubuntu#Ho....28LimeWire.29

I now have an icon in K -> Internet but when I run it I get a bouncy icon for about 10 secs then it gives up. Any ideas anyone?

    I have java 1.4.2

    Thanks

    Re: Limewire

I have Frostwire installed which is a FOSS clone of Limewire. The beauty is that Automatix installs it for you: http://www.getautomatix.com/

If you haven't heard of Automatix, I suggest you try it out as it gets all the essentials up and running in no time (about 15 minutes on my cable modem from start to finsh).

Thanks for that, I will take a look at automatix.

I installed Apollon and that works, although its slow to find things, so I thought I'd go back to my old favourite - so I'd really like to get LimeWire going.

      Anyone?

Not to be a pusher or anything, but I'd reccommend using FrostWire to download the less-than-legal stuff, as limewire not only has that ad everytime your start it, but they filter content on some searches

                  Re: Limewire

                  Ok, point taken.

As a Linux and Kubuntu newbie I am amazed at how helpful people have been so thanks to all. The most amazing revelation was Automatix - I had struggled along and got Dapper installed (many thanks to Linuxloader) got Firefox, Thunderbird, Wine (and thus Picasa) and Jpilot etc going by reading the forums and getting some help. It was all very improving, like brisk walks and cold showers, then in the process of getting Limewire going Emerzen said get Automatix.

Of course, all the things I had struggled with and much more can be done with Automatix, so my big question is - why isn't Automatix bundled with the install (and why isn't the Automatix install itself 'Automatixed'!?). As a prisoner newly escaped from planet MS I feel that my escape would have been a whole lot easier if I'd found Automatix earlier, and that many others would gratefully follow if it was better known. But perhaps thats not the idea?

As an extra bonus, I have found that my old, discarded Athlon 2000 box with a 40Gb HD runs brilliantly under Kubuntu without the sudden inxeplicable slow downs that are a feature of XP - and hopefully without the gradual ageing process that makes XP boxes unusable after a while. The only thing I miss at the moment is Photodraw.

Not used Limewire for a long long time after having to sort out a friend's windows box that was riddled to hell with malware...after a read of this thread I thought I'd fire up Frostwire....Nice app, but I see the nasties are still abundant huh?

                      Re: Limewire

abunt, I agree and I think Automatix should be referred to more frequently. It completely changed my experience w/ Kubuntu. I can immediately begin using my computer for what I need to get done. I still spend much of my spare time learning the OS and tinkering under the hood...but now I can do that at my own speed and w/o the need to run back to Windows frequently.
