    Great confusion!

I'm completely new Linux as I just installed Kubuntu and as soon as I installed it I regretted it, no offense but I'm not good with this sort of thing, so I was about to go back to windows and... well it was gone so yeah I guess I better get to learning, I've spent the past few hours trying to figure out how to install stuff and to no avail... I've followed different tutorials and stuff trying to install firefox and it just doesn't want to install... at all.. So I came on here hoping someone could give me a small tutorial on that sort of thing... please thanks.

    Hi, Kutan, welcome to Kubuntu

Here are two really good sites to have a read of:-

    http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/index.php
    and
    http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper

These will get you going with all sorts of good info.

Google is your friend, too, don't forget.

If you have any hassles or questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Linux is a bit of a sharp learning curve after the familiarity of whatever you're used to but it is well worth the effort.

    Cheers

      Re: Great confusion!

Alright well I installed it, thanks for the help but I have a problem that a guide might not be able to fix... For some reason when I attempt to install adobe flash player for firefox, it says my architecture is not supported? What does that mean? =\

Nevermind that's not a big problem, my big problem is for some reason when I try to edit a folder for example "xinetd.d" it tells me I can't because only an owner can edit that folder... But I'm the owner of the computer and the administrator so I have no idea how to fix this. =\

A very easy way to install a lot of things which you may want (flash, multi-media codecs etc) can be easily installed using either Automatix or Easyubuntu. I have never used these as they didn't exist when I started using Ubuntu a year ago, but from reading these forums, I have seen that many people have solved their problems using one of these.

Here is a link to a thread on these forums which will give a little explanation and it has links to install Automatix.

        http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=7210.0

Only install one, I would suggest Automatix.

As you are very new to this, I would strongly suggest only installing software from the repositories. If you try to install s/w from websites you visit you will run into trouble (until you are a little more familiar with the way your system works). I ignored that piece of advice when I first used Ubuntu (because I know everything and what would they know  8) ) and regretted it on more than one occasion.

I'm not sure what you mean by "edit a folder". Let us know what you are trying to do.

Sounds as if you should read this:
