Kubuntu 14.04 Problem

Linux - Ubuntu 14.04 trusty, (64-bit), 3.13.0-24-generic,
4 x AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 645 Processor, Memory 8.0 GiB
Audio: Card-1: NVIDIA GF116 High Definition Audio Controller driver: snd_hda_intel Sound: ALSA ver: k3.12.0-7-generic Logitech driver: USB Audio

Since installing Ubuntu 14.04 trusty on it's release, everything has worked very well - until recently:
Am currently experiencing many annoying problems:
Example:

Result of Kickoff:>WHATEVER I type here I get:
X Popup: Error- Run Command Interface
Unable to run the command specified. The file or folder file:///home/bumpy/Documents/KDE&Kubuntu_INFO/Kubuntuguides_PDF 13.10/KubuntuguideSaucy_Pt1.pdf does not exist.

Example:
After running: sudo apt-get update, this error is reported:
W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net trusty Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 2836CB0A8AC93F7A

There are many other annoying problems, so I have to do something.
Instead of deleting everything, is it possible to use something like this?:
Ctrl+Alt+F1
sudo apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade (if I have the correct syntax)
I used this before when using kubuntu 13.10 & it worked OK

I am at a loss now, frustrated , and would sincerely appreciate your help.

I will admit I am perplexed ,,,,,,,I can think of no reason the terminal would abort on you like that ,,,,,,,,,,,the GPG error is just no signing key's for a PPA you installed in you source list's ,,,,,,,your kickoff error is just crazy ,,,thats the same one from the "Sketchup" thread is it not?

first try making a new user acct and log in as the new user and see if the problems are their as well ,,,,,,,,,,,then we can go from their.

you can fix you ppa problem by doing this in a terminal

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 8AC93F7A

if you ever have that problem again you just need to add they key .. (replace the 8AC93F7A with the last 8 Chars of the missing key id)

you can do this also thru your package manager by Selecting Configure Software Sources under the Authentication Tab you can Add a key that you have downloaded.

The situation is getting progressively worse!
In Passwords & User Account > System Settings
I changed my password
Rebooted - System booted up OK, BUT it won't accept either my new or old password!! Now I am stuck.
What file can I find my password details so I can maybe rectify this!

boot in to recovery mode and reset a password from there using passwd <username>

You will have to hit your <shift> key just past the bios (and before the Kubuntu splash screen) screen to bring up the Grub menu, you may have to keep stabbing at it to get it at the right spot, sometimes.

Have repeated your suggestion 10 times before the Splash Screen - unable to get any action prior to Splash Screen
Splash Screen only contains:
error: malformed file
hit any key to continue ....
Would it help me if I boot up using Boot Recovery Disk??

Type: sudo blkid and press enter. Let us know what it shows.

Type: df -hT --exclude-type=tmpfs --exclude-type=devtmpfs

What is the value of Use% for the / partition?

I reinstalled kubuntu 14.04 using 1. KDE Partition Manager> Try kubuntu (to clear all files in sda1 - system files) > Started Install procedure>setup sda partition>ignored /home partition & installed. Worked perfectly. Installed huge download update was successful.
Sure quicker than all this messing (even Launchpad could not fix it)
