There is a small icon in the lower right panel (Optimising Search Database).

It does not respond to a click

Optimising Search Database

That's Baloo indexing your files. I only see it in the system tray when I logout and log back in or reboot and log back in. It finishes indexing and goes away.

You can open dolphin and click the binoculars and search by either filename or content.
