    DVD player with menus

    gidday all,

    can anyone help me watch dvd's in linux?

    i like Smplayer and use it frequently for media, alternatively kaffeine, now just installed vlc, they all work well but i cant find a player that will play Dvd's correctly.
    Currently if i play dvd with Smplayer, recently Scrubs season 6, the players opens it as one 2 hour stream rather than seperate episodes - this is ok for movies i guess or if you watch the whole thing in one go but i never do...

    cant seem to find a player that will show the menu and let me click an episode etc.

    has anyone encountered this? is there a fix?

    thanks in advance!

    dvdnav

    The dvdnav is:

    :~$ apt-cache show libdvdnav4

    Description: DVD navigation library
    libdvdnav is a DVD navigation library, which provides an interface to the
    advanced features of DVDs, like menus and navigation. It contains the VM and
    other parts useful for writing DVD players. It's based on Ogle, but was
    modified to be used by xine and mplayer.

    Homepage: http://dvdnav.mplayerhq.hu/
    With Trusty:

    It seems (?) that the Ubuntu is building the MPlayer without the dvdnav: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...er/+bug/542268

    ...and it seems (?) that the MPlayer2 is also a bit broken: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...2/+bug/1274738
    --> http://devel.mplayer2.org/ticket/265
    -----> http://devel.mplayer2.org/attachment...r-dvdnav.patch

    You could build you own MPlayer(2) or seek a PPA with the MPlayer with the dvdnav support.

    With the Precise, at here, the MPlayer is showing the menus.

    The MPlayer/dvdnav: http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/...ne/077008.html

    MPlayer can be started with the command:
    Code:
    mplayer -mouse-movements dvdnav://

    The SMPLayer(mplayer front end): http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/en/faq
    Q. DVD MENUS, WHERE ARE THEY?

    Go to the Drive section in preferences and check the option "Enable DVD menus (Experimental)" and set your DVD drive.

    At here the VLC is showing the DVD menu with the Black Adder DVD - Some other DVD could use an exotic copy protection scheme and it is messing the dvdnav.
