What is the correct method of auto-starting a quicklaunch application?

I have Quicklaunch configured in Desktop 4 to launch Yahoo Mail.

I note that there is a command line in Quicklaunch, and I thought that I might be able to paste this command into Autostart, but it appears not.

Advice please.

The Quicklaunch is part of the plasma desktop and it is restored / started when the plasma desktop is started.

I have a quicklaunch icon in desktop 4 that will start Yahoo Mail.

I would like to start this application using Autostart, but can't see how to use this utility for this purpose. It(Autostart) seems to require a link to a programme, or a script. Perhaps I could drop the icon in! or use the command line within the icon in Autostart(somehow)

You do not need quick launch widget for this at least from what I know anyway.

Session Management should do this automatically, I guess yahoo mail is a web page so if you just leave your browser open on desktop 4 with yahoo mail and you logout then back in it will still be there just like you left it. Check out the Session Management tab in system settings.

Also, you can create an activity with just the browser/yahoo and have it open all the time too.

Cutting corners aka 1-2-3

I have a quicklaunch icon in desktop 4 that will start Yahoo Mail.

I would like to start this application using Autostart,...

1) The Quicklaunch widget is saving the created/edited desktop /1/ files to the ~/.local/share/applications/.

2) The KDE is launching everything (or trying to launch) from the Autostart directory.

Copying (drag&drop) the wanted desktop file from the ~/.local/share/applications/ to the ~/.kde/Autostart/



Marking the desktop file as executable.



... and here the KDE is launching the wanted application at start.

I have managed to start Yahoo Mail in Desktop 4 automatically by using Autostart (home - .kde - Autostart).

I am having difficulty in starting a webpage in Desktop 1 (I have named this Portal) automatically. I enclose the code below

What if you use the numbers ? - as the kstart help is telling:

I made the adjustment, but there is still a problem.

After booting I get messages.

1. Error - Lancelot process died.

Lancelot is not installed, but is in the set of widgets.

2. Close Firefox. FF is already running, but not responding. Close existing FF.

I end up with Yahoo Mail starting in desktop 1, should be in desktop 4

ighome.com does not start.

Note. Before I attempted to start ighome automatically, things worked well - Yahoo Mail started in desktop 4.

Ps. I noticed on booting that the icons in the lower pane were loading at the same time, and wonder if this caused the problem.

I might need to remove the autostart for ighome.

ighome.com does not start.

This is probably a race condition, trying to open two firefox instances simultaneously.
You can test this by adding a "timeout" for the other firefox instance in the .desktop file in the Autostart directory, for example:
Exec=sleep 10 && kstart --desktop 1 firefox -new-window http://www.ighome.com &
(this will wait for ten seconds before starting firefox)

I have the widget in the 'Add Widgets' tray (bottom of screen)

At one time, I moved it to the desktop and tried it out, but thought it too complex and deleted it from the desktop, but it is still in the tray.

I'll try your timeout suggestion (what does && signify).

When I next re-boot, I'll let you know the result.

&& runs one command after another (maby runes is not the right word,,,,links 2 ?) with the condition that the first one completes if the second one is to run.
