    Dragon Player

    Hi,

A few questions regarding Dragon Player.

How can I select more that one file so that they play sequentially?
    What does 'Chapters' refer to?
Aspect Ratio does not seem to change perspective when playing?

    Thanks

Hi, I don't know about DragonPlayer specifics but at least one definition of a "chapter" is that is similar to what we, as non-programmers of multimedia would call a "track" on a cd of music or a DVD of a movie:

A system to define basic menus and partition data.

In this example a movie is split in different chapters. It could also just be an audio file (album) on which each track corresponds to a chapter.

    00000ms - 05000ms : Intro
    05000ms - 25000ms : Before the crime
    25000ms - 27500ms : The crime
    27500ms - 38000ms : The killer arrested
    38000ms - 43000ms : Credits
If one goes to this site and "finds" chapter information it is verrraaahhhh verrrraaaahhh interestun!

    http://www.matroska.org/technical/sp...ers/index.html

To try to address the third item, DragonPlayer was kind of moribund for a while and is now under more active development, it is a default player in some distros, but methinks that changing aspect ration possibly has not been yet addressed, again, do not know specifically.

Since Matroska is a "container" thing, it may just be that the DragonPlayer coders are somehow integrating it now, or possibly in the future in some way..

      Hi,

      Thanks for responding.

I'll have another look at Dragon Player, and if I can't see how to achieve playlists etc, I will consider downloading VLC. I used to use this player in Vista. The problem will then be knowing which files in Muon to download, there are many with vlc connections.

      Best wishes.

just install the package called vlc. The system will download and install any other packages required. It will prompt you and tell you what it will grab and install before you proceed.

If you use Muon Software Center as opposed to Muon Package Manager, the confusion is lessened as Software Center focuses on applications, while the package manager has everything, including libraries, etc.

          a simpel
          Code:
          sudo apt install vlc
will get you a working vlc with all it needs,,,,,you can then add etra plugins as you need them ,,,like browser-plugin-vlc if you want vlc to handle media content in your web browser .

I think that VLC is a lot more popular than Dragon Player.

                          Thank you.

                          Much as I thought

I wonder why the developers did not include VLC as the default player? (I know that it is in Muon)

Might be best to install VLC and remove Dragon Player.

                          Best wishes

Simple: We try to use KDE programs as much as is possible, to provide a well rounded set of default applications that stay within a certain size limit (for the install iso) Dragon has been the default for ages now, with few complaints. It does the job well for quite a few people, but anyone can easily install an alternative.
Also, as many Linux users side toward software freedom, VLC uses a number of non-free codecs.
