    Designing a Theme

I know that I can download themes.

Suppose I would like to create a theme in say GIMP.

Could I do that. If so, how would I install it. Are theri online guidelines (instructions)

Or, is it very involved using specialist software and programming skills.

In addition, can downloades themes be customised , or must they be used 'as is'

KDE desktop (plasma) theme tutorial from the the KDE TechBase: https://techbase.kde.org/Development...s/Plasma/Theme

A feature of Plasma is the ability to theme desktop elements using Scalable Vector Graphics (SVGs). This means there is no need for theme authors to know C++ or any other programming language to create a great looking theme. They need only use common graphics tools many are already familiar with (e.g. Krita, Inkscape, The GIMP, Karbon, etc.). Depending on your prowess with such tools, a great looking plasma theme can be created in under an hour...

I did a theme for Lycos a Looooooonnnnnngggg time ago when I was still in windblows.....they had "images" for the various parts of the Banshee player....what Lycos used back then...

        a) you downloaded the "images/things"
        b) you put artwork into them
        c) saved them with the appropriate file names.....when one "viewed" a swirlygig thing...it was actually "just a box" that had "swirrly gig" stuff EXTRANEOUS to the functionality of the box...
        d) put it into a zip file.........I learned then and there just "what" a "zip file" was....
        e) the proggy had an automagic open kind of like themes for gKrellm...put them in the pathway and it worked...
        f) the "triick" was to put "artwork" into the "boxes" and not into places wherein the user had to "interact with a mouse"...
In other words the "skin" was all "smoke and mirrors".... the critical thing was that if the "holes" were left for the program to interact with the user mouse input...then...it worked automagically.
