Problems whit the sound

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie using kubuntu. I have installed latest version of kubuntu, and I find the following problem:

My soundcard is a SB live! 5.1. I can't get any sound such as system notifications, etc. I also can't hear sound of the videos. If I change the sound driver (I can restart the sound system) sometimes I can hear the vids sound (just sometimes!!), but I can never hear system notifications. When I restart my computer, I find the same things: restarting sound system may fix the vids sound but the other problem keeps.

How can I solve that? Thank you all.

I have a SB live 5.1 or something like it on my box. No problems with sound. I wonder...Did you disable your onboard soundcard in your bios settings?

I think it's not disabled because i have no problem whit sound when running windows (I have instaled kubuntu and windows in my PC)

Do you have onboard sound (like a via system or something)?

I have disabled on board sound and it works fine (as far). Thanks.
