How do I remove unwanted Desktop Icons?

I do not know what application caused these icons to appear, however, I locate my Start Panel on the upper screen of my Desktop. I hide the panel when not in use, nonetheless when I need to use the Start Menue, it drops down and is disturbed by the unwanted Icons I show in the screenprint. Thanks!

Curently the unwanted widget is gone. I do not know how or what removed it. This has happened before, so it may return. I will remove this post with a "SOLVED", to lessen the reading for the gurus. Thanks to all who read and gave thought to my problem.
