Kubuntu blue screen of death ...

I installed last night an upgrade that appeared on my taskbar, that related to x-server (I unfortunately didn't take the time to write it all down), then shut down my computer. When I restarted it today, it remains stuck at the Kubuntu splash screen, with the dark blue bar.
How can I correct this somewhat scary situation?

welcome aboard!
You need to downgrade what was upgraded using this command

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core=1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10

I think there are 3 threads now about this.

Btw, I prefer to call it BSOH: The Linux Black Screen of Hell. Includes Kernel panics and other X server problems as well.
