    a couple of questions

I can't log into shell as su. the password words as admin in kde gui put not in shell.
I would like to install vmware server, but not sure on building it from tar. I've downloaded tar and have extracted it, Opened vmare-server.pl. Do I put the info in red in /usr/bin/perl?
I'm moving from Xandros to Kubuntu, but have been mainly a user. Have always been able to install new packages for XN. Is there some program that will handle a rpm in Kubuntu. I saw a rpm exe in /usr put could access it.
    Thanks Scott

    Kubuntu uses sudo not su

    Can't help re VMWare

Kubuntu is a deb based distro, not an rpm based one. Use adept, or apt-get from the command line to install packages

Thanks analyticalman you are the only person to answer my posts. I still can get VMware installed, I followed the instruction for a tar in the link you sent. I get things unpacked the get lost from there. I usually , get error messages that mean nothing to me. I think I may go back to Xandros v3, v4 doesn't work in this box.
      Thanks again Scott

Well - just noticed that VMWare - player is available in the multiverse repositories so if that is any good to you, enable those repositories like this

        http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources.php

        Then install it using adept.

If it must be this package that you have as a tar and you are getting error messages then you could start another thread about installing VMWare as a tar package - post the errors and you may get help that way.
