    printer setup

I'm new to kububtu. I just installed kubuntu 12.04 on desk top computer with a AMD 64 cpu. I want to install a Lexmark X8300 printer that has a USB port connector. Any help would be appreciated.

What have you done so far? Just plugged it in? Kubuntu doesn't do plug and play like Windows or even Apple, you have to be a bit more pro-active. If you go to System Settings then down to the second from bottom line "Hardware", you will find a Printer icon, double click on this, then on "Install Printer", and you will be guided through the process (As long as you know the exact model number of your printer). I'm a newbie to Linux, but have converted 2 laptops since Wednesday (One of mine and one for the next-door neighbour who had an old XP model) and installed an HP printer on mine and a Kodak multifunction on hers, both over our independent wireless networks, and in her case, from my sitting room.

      Thanks for responding,
I went through all the setup and found that my printer does not have drivers for kubuntu, so I have to live with that I guess. I tried different drivers but none work.

Have you tried here: http://support.lexmark.com/index?pag...e=RU&locale=en and here: http://www.lexmark.com/publications/...vers/en/ug.pdf or the whole Google page: https://www.google.co.uk/#q=linux+dr...xmark+printers I would have separated the lines, but for some reason I can't do carriage returns in this forum.

I read the X8350 works with the Z55 driver. Worth a try.
