After Install, and choosing the boot option, it keeps blank screen

    Hi Everyone!

i just installed Kubuntu on my laptop.

I shrinked the C drive i have on Windows 8.1, and got 80GB free unllocated disk space for Kubuntu.
    I downloaded the DVD file, version 12.04 - 64bit.

After booting from the DVD all was instaled ok. Windows still there, and appearing the boot menu to select the OS i want.
Issues on this menu: the both Ubuntu options just give a blank screen. the 2 windows options (recovery and 'normal') don't boot, appearing an error. (at this time i don't exactly the text, maybe i can check it later. it is something on "drivemap".

After any of these options, i need to turn off the computer, and at the menu select 'UEFI' option, this is the only that works fine. So, it enters the "bios" and i change boot option to the original option (Windows) and it boots fine to windows.

I also tried using a pendrive, and "try" kubuntu, but the same occurs: blank screen.

So, i need help to find out where the problem is, and what i can do to fix this.

data: Asus Laptop, intel core i5 1.7GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB HDD. Graphic Nvidia Geforce 740M 2GB.
    As i mentioned before, Windows8.1 and Kubuntu 12.04 - 64 bit.

    More data:

    GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu 3.14

    options on boot menu:
    1- Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-23-generic
    2- 1-Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-23-generic (recovery mode)
    3- Memory test (memtest86+)
    4- Memory test (memtest86+, Serial console 115200)
5- Windows Recovery Environment (loader) (on /dev/sda2)
    6- Windows 8 (loader) (on /dev/sda4)
    7- System Setup

with options 1 and 2, i get the blank screen.
with options 3 and 4, i get this message: "error: unknown command 'linux16' "
with options 5 and 6, i get this message: "error: unknown command 'drivemap'
error: invalid EFI file path "

    Any help?

    thanks in advance.

Just curious are you dual booting?
If you search on google, with those very same errors, there's references to UEFI + Bios Mixing.
I am fairly new to this, but if I can help a little bit by pointing to some references.
Hopefully someone more skilled can help you out better.

          So, i have reinstalled Kubuntu.

As i searched over the internet i checked the partitions i had and the ones that are needed.
It was missing one. so i had one swap and a ext4.

i deleted those and made 3 new ones: root, home and swap. i did this manually.

after that i installed Kubuntu and it is working.

i need help to fix the problem with windows boot, as the error is still there. I mean, with the Kubuntu boot menu, if i choose any of the windows options, the error apears.

          "error: unknown command 'drivemap'
error: invalid EFI file path "

to startup the computer with Windows i have to enter UEFI and change the boot option.

          Any help?
          Thanks in Advance
