Which Kernel/Optimization tips

Hi I have an Amd 64 3800 with 2GB ram and 2 x SATA 73GB hdds. I installed the 32bit version of kubuntu the other day, I choose 32bit because I'm a gamer and they tend to run easier on 32bit then 64.

Obvious the 32bit kernel is not the best for my proc, I'm using the default x86 kernel. Should I be using another kernel? If I recompiled/compile a new kernel which proc option should I choose. If I understand correct the i686 kernel is for P4's right? should I select K7 (being an AMD chip and all) or am I just better sticking with the proc/kernel choice I have (or get brave and install 64 bit)?

If I were you, I'd try K7. If it turns out to be slower than i386, or hangs at strange places, I'd go with a 686 kernel. If that's no good, go back to the 386 kernel that you have not removed during all your kernel tests.
