No video

Installed Kubuntu on AMD 32 bit system.12.04. Carried out update. I have Shockwave Flash 11.2.202.336 as a plug-in in Firefox.
In Firefox, when I click to activate the video on bbc iplayer or youtube the video area just goes blank white.
Rekonq crashes as soon as I go to a page with a video on it. If I configure Rekonq to manually activate the plug-in it goes to the page but crashes at the instant I activate it.
I tried deleting the Flashplayer and reinstalling but it is just the same.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Flash in Linux is no longer supported. The downloads we have are very old by now; while occasional security patches are added, the player itself receives no maintenance and increasingly can't play newer videos and likely won't work with newer graphics drivers.

That's right -- thanks, Vinny, I momentarily forgot about that. The Flash binary embedded in Chrome (but not Chromium) is kept up-to-date by Google. A PPA provides a mechanism for extracting this binary from Chrome so that you can use it in Chromium. It's what I've done.

I added the ppa. Updated the package cache. When I attempt a simulated install of the package I get:

Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package pepflashplugin-nonfree

What's with that!? The site shows that the package was successfully built 11 days ago.

I think there is an issue with the .deb package controller file. The ppa site says the package is named pepflashplugin-nonfree. Muon finds it as pepflashplugin-installer. Attempting to install from the CLI either named package results in the same error as above.

Hm... here I've installed only pepflashplugin-installer. What does the following show on your machine?

The flash player still works for me but I have an older system.

Another possible alternative is to install Pipelight and enable flash through it. http://www.webupd8.org/2013/08/pipel...our-linux.html

As for me, I'm switching over to Chrome myself. I'm trying to make it as functional as Firefox and I think I'm pretty close.

As it stands youtube doesn't work either. I will try Chrome as soon as I get a chance and report the results.
