The "mtp protocol died unexpectedly" "problem/bug"
When the phone was tethered using a "U4 media manager" tether I received " connected as installer" and all that I saw was the phone's file system in Kubuntu.
When I tried opening it with Gwenview I got the "mtp protocol died" message.
After several attempts and restarting the machine to see if a suggestion might be made by Kubu to install new software, I chenged the "sync" of the phone to ptp from mtp,.
Kubuntu then immediately saw the phone as a camera, and it popped Gwenview and I "think" that Kubuntu "found" the phone, because it opened and the file structure said "phone"; however absolutely nothing happened. I waited a long time because I thought maybe it was just taking a lot of time to "catalogue" the pics, but nothing.
There are a lot of posts about this including here at Kubu forums. (mostly back in Jan/Feb/ through March/ and the most common possible was to install KIO slave
However, KIO slave and a lot of stuff is already installed on Tahr.
This is a fix that works for my particular Samsung SIII Galaxy Android.
From synaptic install:
mtp tools
qlix
After installing the apps, Kubuntu took three attempts to find the file system and did indeed find the file system, using mtp.
The second time it "seemed" to find the phone but again the "mtp protocol died".
The third time it did, indeed, work and the images were found and catalogued within possibly thirty seconds, and this for hundreds of images and five videos.
I was able to both "copy" and also to "move" the files.
if anyone has questions/comments/additions/etc please append them.
