Hello. I'm new to KDE and kind of... long time no see to Linux and Ubuntu.
Anyway I am following this forum's How To: Japanese Language on my fresh install of Kubuntu 13.10 (amd64). However, because this wasn't the first solution I tried I might have installed and uninstalled some packages so that now my installation differs from the default.
Here is what I have installed presently:
Going to Applications->Settings->Input Methods gives this output
Anyway my problem is that I get stuck on step 3:
> 3. In the Application Launcher, go to the Applications tab, and click Settings. Click on Keyboard Input Methods.
When I do this, the small window asking me to launch ibus settings doesn't appear. On the lower panel, in the task manager, a new button appears that says Keyboard Input Methods, and its icon spins for a while, as does the cursor's "working" spinner. However, the button simply disappears and the window doesn't open, and I can't get any further.
Help! Thanks.

Current configuration for the input method: * Active configuration: missing (normally missing) * Automatic configuration: ibus (normally ibus or fcitx or uim) * Number of valid choices: 2 (normally 1) The configuration set by im-config is activated by re-starting X. Explicit selection is not required to enable the automatic configuration if the active one is default/auto/cjkv/missing. Available input methods: ibus xim Unless you really need them all, please make sure to install only one input method tool.
