    Re: installing Firefox

It is much easier to use adept to install stuff.
You will find that on the K menu under system.

In order to install the file you downloaded you will have to install other stuff to be able to compile and install that set of files you extracted.

        Re: installing Firefox

Go to KMenu > System > Adept Package Manager

        In the filter, type
        Code:
        firefox
Right-click the Firefox package and mark it for installation.

        Apply changes.

Well - adept wont find it, nor will other methods I've tried.
I get the messages below. So I downloaded it from their web site - so - please - what exactly must I do to install it from the tar.gz file? I need it and Int Explorer to test web sites on. Thanks.

If Adept can't find it, chances are your network wasn't connected when you installed kubuntu (and the installer deactivated the online repositories)

If you activate the repositories, Adept will come available.

You can have a look at these howtos on installation and repositories by aysiu:

Very many thanks! I would never have guessed that such a thing would be disabled just because the network wasn't on at the time. So much to learn! Now to try to install tar.gz stuff...

The links and the Desktop Guide I mentioned will also explain how to install from source code (the tar.gz package), but you're nearly always better off using the package managers (like Adept) to install ubuntu packaged software (when you install from package you don't need to download anything manually, the package manager will handle it all). Read the howtos for more information and more detailed description.
