When I use <ALT> + <F2> and type in something, the results are unreadable as they are black on black.

Change to a different Desktop Theme 'for the moment'. That, or you can play around with the color settings: System Settings > Application Appearance > Colors > ColorsWindows no longer obstructs my view.

I've changed theme to 'Humanity' and the search bar is still the same. As a Dark Desktop Theme, Oxygen is very nice; it's what I use, along with Oxygen Window Decorations.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
