I use thunnderbird for email and when I received emails showing I had responses to another thread I clicked on the links and it asked for an application. When I clicked on that it did not take me to applications but rather a page that showed things like home and file manager. I need to set up firefoox. Thanks

This is a Thunderbird problem, not a Kubuntu problem. Dozens of pages on the net on how to fix it.
