I wanna be a Kubuntu Convert .... but

Just purchased a Philips X62 Laptop and decided to try a do my little bit against the might of Microsoft and install KUbuntu .....

Install went smoothly and everthing looks like its KUbuntu full steam ahead.

    Apart from ...................

    1) No WPA Network ...... I've scanned the forums and with the dexterity of a elephant typed the following command ...

    Mine@Mine-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

    Mine@Mine-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install KNetworkManager
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
    E: Couldn't find package KNetworkManager

    2) Display ..........

    11.1 WXGA 1366x768 Intel 945

I can setup using 1280x768 and have changed the x11.conf but still cannot get the display to change to 1366x768.

Please can someone help my sanity

    Regards

    Kim

Little more info on the display is helpful.

What chipset? nvidia? ati? something else? What kind of monitor resolution? 1366x768 doesn't look like a resolution.

Would you mind posting what exactly you did to get WPA going? I've been trying for weeks (not very hard though) and stopped when wpa_supplicant doesn't really work.
Also, what wifi adapter do you have? I have a ipw2200 which seems infamous among forums for WPA issues. The non-working bluetooth and GPRS I don't mind. That can be sorted out later.

btw, I have an intel graphics extreme 915 and set the driver to i810 and the resolution is fine (this is actually automatic in kubuntu - 1680x1050)

          Intel 945GM Intergrated Graphics

          I have selected 1280 x 768 @ 60 and Intel 945. Everything looks fine but woundered how
I can set Kunbuntu to full resoulution. I tried changing 1280x768 to 1366x768 in the X11.conf but nothing has changed ...

Re: I wanna be a Kubuntu Convert .... but

Just curious, have you tried the following command:

            Code:
            sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Usually the default answers to the questions will suffice. That might help you get your xorg.conf squared away properly. You'll need to know a bit of information though. Such as monitor type/model, and other things.

I just have ............. I selected the default options with a 1280x768 Resolution.

So the the question still is for this linux Newbie........ how do you change a 1280x768 display to a 1366x768 display ..

Come on Kubuntu. we have put men on the moon and Windows XP detected this without breaking a sweat.  People will only convert, if the thing works

I've not tried this, but maybe this is your lucky day:
