    VLC screen locks up strangely

I was watching a video withh vlc and after 30 minutes the screen blanked and in the center on the screen was a popup that said i had to type in my passwd too continue. the audio and the movie itself continued as i grabbed my mouse. the thing is, the instant i touched my mouse, the blank screen disappeared and everything else was all right. [ this happened every 30 minutes throughout the movie.

is this a system bug in kde? i have checked vlc that i don't remember touching: found nothing obvious. So: thoughts, guys?

    TIA, for any suggestions.

It would happen on any program that was running and no input, either keyboard or mouse. I'm unsure of fix other than turning off screenlock and/or screensaver
    Boot Info Script

      As mentioned in http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/4739#comment:33

      * vlc 2.0 and earlier mostly worked with 4.9 and earlier but it only worked as well it did by accident.
      * The upcoming vlc 2.1 should work perfectly with kde 4.10

xdg-screensaver again is quite fragile and worked as well as it used to by accident. It's been even more unreliable for gnome for even longer I believe.

This bug is variously INVALID, WONTFIX and FIXED. But we've already fixed a few quirks on the kde side for 4.10.0 and just need vlc 2.1 to be released to (hopefully) settle this.

In the meantime you could untick "Enable power management" in the battery applet while you're watching the movie.
The standard VLC with the Raring seems to be:
      :~$ vlc --version
VLC media player 2.0.8 Twoflower (revision 2.0.8a-0-g68cf50b)
      VLC version 2.0.8 Twoflower (2.0.8a-0-g68cf50b)
