    KMail Problems

    Using kubuntu v13.04 64 bit
    Have been using KMail for a long time, with no problems. Now it suddenly is corrupt - hangs when any action is taken, totally useless.
    Ran Muon Package Manager – uninstalled Kmail. However, Kmail still ran using the same corrupt version !!. Repeated this process 2 more times. Finally suceeded!
    Package Manager reports it was not installed. Rinstalled from Muon Package Manager Aug 19
    I still get the SAME STUPID CORRUPT VERSION!! Sure would appreciate some help to resolve this dilema!

    What version of KDE are you on? Do/Did you have Kontact installed?

        As to version of KDE, just launch any KDE application and click on Help > About KDE.

            Okay. Will Kmail start? If 'yes', check the version: Help > About Kmail.

                Okay.

                Open a console. Type:
                Code:
                sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
                What is the output? Copy/paste. Don't answer the question -- yet.

                    Okay, all is up to date.

                    Time to inquire as to the nature of the 'corruption' that you say exists with KMail. What happens? What do you see? What is/isn't it doing that it was before?
                    Windows no longer obstructs my view.

                        Do you have saved email that is important to keep?

                            Due to kmail's interaction with akonadi and its "less than stellar" implementation, corruption periodically happens with for me. Uninstalling/purging kmail removes the binary and the global configuration files however it does not remove your local files or the akonadi corruption. Try the following:
                            * Stop akonadi: "akonadictl stop"
                            * Cd into .local/share/akonadi
                            * Remove db files: "rm -r db_* file_db_data"
                            * Start akonadi: "akonadictl start"

                            After this, you may have to go to kmail's configuration and if necessary reset each account's notion of "Trash" folder, "Sent" folder, etc. Also, any filters set up that move emails to folders will need to be examined and reset their destination folder if necessary.

                            I like kmail. Much of it is fantastic compared to other email clients. It does, however, have some very rough edges particularly with respect to its use of akonadi.

                              How do I find "kmail's configuration" ??
