    mounting an external hard drive

when I try to mount my external hard drive it tells me
"mount: only root can mount /dev/sda1 on /media/sda1"

what does that mean and what do I do?

When I plug an external HD into the USB-port of my computer, an icon appears on the desktop, and Konqueror opens automatically.

If you have to manually mount your external HD, try typing "sudo" before typing the mount command.

In which file do I have to put 'mnt statement' to have a drive mounted and unmounted each time I start Kubuntu?

The file you need to have a look at is /etc/fstab...you can search the forums for more info about fstab if you're not sure. (you can also have a look at 'man fstab' and 'man mount')
