how can I get dual monitoring to work?

I started with kubuntu yesterday...

Now I want my 2 monitors to work properly together but I can't get this done!

My graphics card: ATI radeon 9200 vivo
1 15 inch and 1 17 inch monitor

when I shut down my 15 inch monitor and only use the 17 inch I can set my resolution to 1024*.. but when I use them both I only can set the resolution to 800*600 75hz
and I see twice the same on both the screens

the point is that i can move things around from one monitor to the other...

please help me out here!

You can use a program called Xinerama. There's an Ubuntu Community HowTothat includes an xorg.conf file for Radeon display cards.
