For people with high end systems that freeze when accessing the browser.
I have two posts that explore solution to system freezes when a browser is opened. I recently tried the alternate driver for my reasonably high end GPU. When I did, the freezes stopped.
Unfortunately the video quality in not as good; in fact, it is about equal to 1960 or so video quality. But the freezes stop, which is more important to me. I suspect the developers will correct the problem in the coming months, and I will be able to switch back to an otherwise higher quality driver that does not freeze.
The following is a list of my components. My suspicion is that it is a driver problem for the GPU, but it may be the Mother Board. Both are pretty advanced technology. Anyone who has a similar problem will be able to understand what is wrong and what to do to get a less interrupted system:
CPU – AMD 8350 8-core 4200+
GPU – XFX R7850 'double dissipation' 2GB DDR5 PCI Express 3.0
This is an Ati Radeon card.
RAM – 16GB DDR-3 1866
SSD – 256GB
HDD – TB 6GBs
HDD – TB 3GBs
DVDRW – (2)
Power Supply 1000W
Motherboard AsRock 990FX Extreme4
Dual-Boot
Kubuntu 13.04
