How do I change my login screen on my toshiba laptop?

    Kubuntu 13.04 KDE 4.10.2

In the past when I wanted to change this item, I was able to do so by logging in as root to make the changes. In 13.04, I am unable to login as root.

Using the KMenu>Applications>Settings>SystemSettings>SystemA dministration>LoginScreen(LightDM), I located the image I want for my login screen. It is the one I use on my Desktop PC. Nevertheless, when I attempt the process in the current distrobution, the change does not set. Instead I get a white background with the login boxes.
